The prints are created in my studio using pigment inks on archival fine art paper. Each print has a 2" white border on all sides for framing purposes. Signed and numbered in the white margin. A certificate with edition number and other information is affixed to the back.
The ready-to-hang box-mounted pieces are also created using the finest pigment inks on archival fine art paper. The print is then mounted on a flush mount wooden cradle frame and hand textured with clear acrylic medium for a brushstroke finish. Signed on the front. A certificate with edition number and other information is affixed to the back.

Columbia Gorge...wild wintry landscape
Seems like a painting in which to escape
Snow lined trees and crystalline waterfalls
Deep chasms etch canyon cathedrals
Blue grey ice icicles hang like jewels
Or as dangerous daggers or tools
Snowy white, black, taupe and grey
Ravens plying skies and birds of prey
Watch a cold river closely for fish
To catch mighty salmon is their wish
A lone blue heron sits by the shore
Hoping this still backwater offers more
Craggy oak trees lend cover for rest
To small creatures in burrows and nests
Big horn sheep tracks in cold blowing snow
Where they go no one can really know
As the sky turns a soft blush of pink
And behind the crags the sun does sink
Another day of drama ends here
And the magical twilight is near
"Oh moon of white light
How will you shine tonight
Waxing full and round
Glowing light sky and ground
A beacon you are
To all those wide and far
With eyes turned above
Searching for luck and love”

Now, as I seek out my images as an adult, I step into a world of gruff, tough-as-nails ‘Yard Bosses’ with dirty faces and a gnashing snarl that would scare Clint Eastwood. …and that snarl is directed at me! They’ve gotten used to me over the years though and allowed me in - they see I am sincere and passionate about what I do.
I’ve learned the rules and etiquette, if you will, of the scrapyard. Stay far away from the large pieces of heavy equipment being operated, employing large swinging arms with grasping tools or huge 4 feet in diameter magnets for lifting metal from place to place. They may back over you, so watch their movements. Be aware of sharp, protruding points, razor sharp edges, slippery, oily areas and huge piles of metal that may cascade down on you at any time. I have become very adept at climbing over piles of uneven, twisted, wound up piles of wire, pipe, and hulking bodies of discarded industrial machinery.
There is a sweet, oily smell everywhere from the mixture of every imaginable chemical thrown together. On a blazing hot summer day, there is dust rising from the road winding around within the yard. You suspect this dust contains, lead, PCBs and possible radiation from the many loads of materials received from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation for over 70+ years. Still, I am drawn to this inhospitable place to get my shots! It’s my obsession!
I try to go to the scrapyard most every time my son Joseph, a sculptor, goes there to buy metal for his creative work (Website: RastovichArt.com). Joseph, has my back and watches out for me while I get lost in the moment and into the flow of capturing images.
I can shoot hundreds of images at a time when I go out. I organize my 80,000 images by color, subject matter and date with the help of a computer program. It can be overwhelming, but I surprise myself at times by remembering where an image was shot years ago and what came from … such as a railcar or dumpster.
]]>'Sochi' translates to the word 'equipment' in the Japanese language.
This image has an overlay image of weathered copper metal.
I only apply to juried shows, and the competition is fierce! Many shows get thousands entries and only 200 artists are selected. I have talked to jewelry makers who have applied for 12 years in a row and not gotten in. These are the ‘Top 25’ best shows in the country and artists know there is a lot of gallery and art consultant connections – and money to be made in them!
]]>The word Mandala means "circle". A Mandala represents wholeness, a cosmic diagram reminding us of our relation to infinity, extending beyond and within our bodies and minds.
The mandala appears to us in all aspects of life, the Earth, the Sun, the Moon and more obviously the circles of life encompassing friends, family and communities.
Mandalas are circular designs symbolizing the notion that life is never ending. Many mandalas have spiritual significance to an individual or group of individuals. The Hindus were one of the first people to use a mandala as a spiritual tool, but the mandalas most individuals are familiar with, are ones made by Buddhists.
Mandalas can be created by individuals to symbolize their journeys through life. Mandalas can also tell a story of where an individual has been. In some cases they will reveal the individual's path in life. .
